Q. What is the website?
This website provides a directory of services for children and young people and their families. It contains information about services that are both local and national.
Q. Why has the website been put together?
The website has been put together because every local authority is required to have a directory of services. Feedback from parents has also been that they would value having a single point of information to refer to if they need information.
Q. Why are there four zones to choose from?
A. These have been created so you only see content that is relevant to you.
Children – if you are aged 5 – 11, this zone will be right for you. It will include details of clubs and activities that you might want to join in with as well as places where you can go for advice if you need it.
Young people – if you are aged between 12 and 19, this is the zone for you. In addition to leisure activities, you will also find information about where you can find out about courses and careers that might be useful for you.
Parents – in a national survey, 75% of parents say that there are times in their lives, or the lives of their children, where they need to access additional information or support (HMT Poverty review 2004). This zone can you help you find further advice and support, whether this is health related, help with your child’s learning or support that you can access.
Practitioners – if you work with families, this may be a resource that will help you identify services available, both local and national, that might support you in finding support for families.
Q. How can I search for information?
A. There are several different types of searches available
Search by category / sub-category
When you click inside the zone that is right for you, then you will find a list of categories to choose from. If you choose one of these categories, it will take you to a list of sub-categories. The record s have been organised in this way to help you see what types of services are available in this website. Clicking on a sub-category should give you a list of services and then you choose to look at the ones that are relevant for you.
Search by "Quick Search"
On the each page of the website, there is a “Quick Search” option at the top of the page. You can type a word or phrase in here and it will search the website for any records containing this text. This is recommended only if you have used the website before and so know what types of records it contains.
Search by "A – Z" list
This lists all services alphabetically. It is recommended if you know the name of the service that you are looking for.
Search by "Site Map"
This gives a list of all the pages on the website down to sub-category level.
Q. What do I do if I cannot find the information I am looking for?
If you cannot find what you are looking for, you can either:
Try one of the other different searches available
Or
Ring the Freephone number on the website 0800 073 4800 and a member of staff will se if there is information in the directory that might be relevant to your needs.
It would also be useful if you could complete the Feedback form so we can be aware of any gaps in the information in the directory or any difficulties that you have had using it.
Q. What do I do if I know about a record that needs to be added or changed?
A. Please complete the feedback form, not forgetting to include your contact details or those of the person running the service that changes need to be made for.
Q. Where can I go for more information about a service?
A. Apart from contacting the service direct, some services will also have website links that may be able to provide you with further information about them.
